In order to mark the 100th anniversary of Mr. Xiao Chuanjiu’s birth, the department of Sculpture holds “Symposium to Mark the 100th Anniversary of Mr. Xiao Chuanjiu’s Birth and Publishing Premiere of ‘Selected Works of Xiao Chuanjiu’” in China Academy of Art (CAA). Mr. Xiao Chuanjiu is one of China’s most excellent sculptors and art educationists and also a professor in CAA. He studied in the Department of Sculpture in 1931 and went to Japan for further studies in 1933. After he came back from Japan, he became a teacher in CAA. Xiao Chuanjiu trained numerous young sculptors and made great contributions to the development of China’s sculpture field. The large-scale relief, “Nanchang Uprising”, that he created and completed has become an immortal article in the history of sculpture in new China. In the symposium, his family members donated eight sketches by Xiao to CAA.
